Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No. 7 Alberta wins in three over Cougars

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was taken out in three sets on Friday night by the No. 7-ranked Alberta Pandas in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening set was close until Alberta sprinted away with a 10-1 run, turning what had been a one-point Regina lead into a 25-16 victory.
  • The Cougars came out strong in the second, scoring the first four points of the set and holding the lead until Alberta reeled off six straight points with Justine Kolody on serve. The Cougars called a timeout and responded shortly thereafter with five straight points of their own, capping the run with a Cassadi Klapak service ace which forced an Alberta timeout. The Cougars continued to build the lead with back-to-back Jordy McEachern kills which put them up 20-15, but Alberta then took 10 of the next 11 points to take a 25-21 win in the second.
  • The third set was all Alberta as the Pandas hit .579 as a team and took a 25-15 victory to clinch the match.

NOTES
  • Klapak had 16 assists, 5 service aces, and 4 digs for the Cougars.
  • Bailey Balaberda led the Cougars with six kills and tied Reese Evjen for the team lead with six digs.
  • Mackenzie Pool and Lauryn Tremblay both had nine kills for Alberta.
