Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No. 7 Alberta wins over Cougars

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team closed out the first half of its Canada West schedule with a three-set loss to No. 7 Alberta on Saturday night in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alberta set the tone for the night right off the hop, hitting .519 as a team in a 25-11 first-set victory.
  • The Cougars switched things up in the second set by starting Samantha Krausher at right side and putting in Makenna Giesbrecht at libero, but the result was the same. Alberta took the second set by an identical 25-11 score to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The third set saw Dryden Gris come back in at right side and Fiona Little move to left side and the Cougars responded with their strongest push of the match. They traded points with Alberta until a Piper Harkness kill got the Cougars to within two points at 12-10, but it was all Pandas from there. They took control of the set with six straight points, then clinched the match with a 25-14 victory.

NOTES
NEXT UP
The Cougars will now take a month-long break from Canada West play until Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, when they'll host No. 5-ranked Fraser Valley at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
