QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's hockey team closed out the first half of the Canada West schedule with a 4-0 setback to UBC on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UBC opened the scoring at 11:11 of the first after a Sophia Gaskell shot from the point glanced off the shaft of Grace Elliott's stick and went in.Â
- Elliott's deflection stood as the only goal until just past the midway point of the game when Joelle Fiala stepped out of the penalty box after serving a minor and was promptly fed with a breakaway pass by Cassidy Rhodes. Fiala scored, putting UBC up 2-0.
- Rhodes added a power play goal for UBC with just over six minutes remaining in regulation, and Jacquelyn Fleming ended any hope of a Regina comeback with a goal shortly thereafter.
NOTES
- UBC's Kayla McDougall stopped all 21 shots for a shutout and was also credited with an assist on Fiala's goal.
- Natalie Williamson got the start in net for the Cougars and made 25 saves.
- UBC scored on two of its four power play opportunities. Regina finished the game 0-for-8 with the advantage.
