Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars complete sweep with 73-51 win over UNBC

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's basketball team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday night with a 73-51 win over the UNBC Timberwolves at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars led nearly from wire to wire in Saturday's victory, answering UNBC's only lead of the game in the early going with a huge 17-0 run that turned a one-point lead for the visitors into a 23-7 advantage for Regina.
  • Regina led 28-16 after the first and 42-28 at the half, and a Kianna Wiens three-pointer late in the third quarter pushed the lead over 20 for the first time.
  • Amrit Manak's triple pulled UNBC to within 14 points with a little over five minutes to go in the fourth, but those turned out to be the Timberwolves' final points of the game as the U of R defence held strong for the remainder of the contest to lock up the team's eighth Canada West win of the season.

NOTES
  • Jade Belmore led the Cougars (8-4) with 21 points and also tied Ryenn Schutz for the team lead with 6 rebounds.
  • Cara Misskey had five rebounds, five assists, and five steals for the U of R while also chipping in with four points.
  • Wiens and Dayna Pearce both finished with nine points.
  • Rebecca Landry was 8-for-13 from the field and led UNBC (2-10) with 16 points.

NEXT UP
The Cougars are back at home next Friday and Saturday with games against Mount Royal. MRU will enter the weekend with a 6-6 conference record.
