Cougars suffer Friday loss to Saskatchewan

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team went on the road Friday and was defeated by a 3-0 margin by the Saskatchewan Huskies in a U-Prairie Challenge match in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars were still within two points in the first set after a Dryden Gris kill made it 18-16 for Saskatchewan, but the Huskies pulled away from there and took the opener by a 25-19 count.
  • Regina had several early leads in the second set, but Saskatchewan used a 6-1 run midway through the frame to take the lead for good. The Cougars got back-to-back kills from Devyn Grimsrud and Reese Evjen to cut the U of S lead to 23-20, but the Huskies got the next two points to claim a 25-20 win.
  • The Cougars made a valiant attempt to battle back after falling behind 13-6 in the third set by taking six of the next eight points, but Saskatchewan finished strong and clinched the match with a 25-15 victory.

NOTES
  • Evjen finished with a team-leading 8 kills while Jordy McEachern led all players with 10 digs. Cassadi Klapak had 23 assists and 7 digs for the Cougars.
