Cougars defeat Manitoba for fourth straight victory

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's basketball team got 2024 off to a hot start with a 96-49 victory over Manitoba on Friday night in Winnipeg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars went on a 12-0 run in the opening quarter and never looked back. They led 23-8 after the first and outscored Manitoba 28-14 in the second quarter to take a 51-22 lead into the halftime break.
  • Regina continued to pile up the points in the second half, pouring in 30 in the third quarter and going deep into the rotation as no U of R player played more than 23 minutes in the win.

NOTES
  • Jade Belmore scored a game-high 23 points for the Cougars while also adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
  • Cara Misskey scored 15 points and had 8 assists, while Kianna Wiens finished with 13 points. Eden Wells finished just one bucket short of her first Canada West double-double, ending up with 8 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
  • The Cougars improve their Canada West record to 6-3 with the victory. They remain tied with Alberta for seventh place in the 17-team conference standings.
