• The Rams return to the field following the conference-wide bye week. They lost 23-20 to Calgary last time out in a tight, low-scoring game which featured wind gusts approaching 100 km/h at Mosaic Stadium. Regina, Alberta, and Calgary all sit in a tie for fourth place in the conference standings with identical 2-4 records.
• After two straight losses to open the season, including a 33-28 setbach to the Rams in Week 2 in Regina, Saskatchewan has turned it around with wins in three of its last four games. The Huskies (3-3) sit alone in third place in the Canada West standings.
• We'll give the full rundown later, but the Rams remain in full control of their postseason destiny. Only Manitoba and UBC have clinched playoff berths, and wins in their final two games would put the Rams into the conference semifinals.
WIN AND THEY'RE IN: Sure, it's a bit of a mess right now in the Canada West standings and the Rams are one of three teams heading into Week 7 tied for the fourth and final postseason berth, but it's pretty simple from a U of R perspective. Win both of their final two games and the Rams will be in the playoffs.
OUT OF TOWN: The critical Week 7 schedule also sees UBC play host to Calgary on Friday night and Alberta host Manitoba on Saturday. With Manitoba and UBC already having playoff spots locked up, wins by both the Bisons and the Thunderbirds would be good news in case the Rams can't finish off the season sweep in Saskatoon on Saturday. That scenario would eliminate Calgary from playoff contention and give the winner of next week's Alberta/Regina game at Leibel Field the fourth and final playoff berth.
TIEBREAKING: Technically, the Rams enter Week 7 in sixth place in the Canada West standings despite being in that three-way tie for fourth. Calgary currently wins the three-way tie based on the Dinos' head-to-head record in games against Alberta and the Rams, and Alberta takes fifth over the Rams thanks to the Golden Bears' Week 4 win over Regina in Edmonton.
HOW I MET YOUR RUNNING BACK: After mostly employing a rotating cast of four running backs for the first four games of the season, the Rams have gone with a more traditional approach in the two games since with RB
Marshall Erichsen playing a feature role. Erichsen ran 16 times for 86 yards in Week 5 against Manitoba, then exploded for a career-high 169 rushing yards in the Week 6 game against Calgary while also catching 6 passes for 39 yards. Erichsen's 169 yards on the ground were the highest single-game total by a Rams player since Atlee Simon ran for 222 yards back in the 2017 playoffs against UBC, and he became the first Ram to go over 200 all-purpose yards since Kyle Borsa piled up 294 in a game at Manitoba in 2018.
SACK LEADER: DL
Tarick Polius continues to lead Canada West in sacks. In his fourth year of U SPORTS eligibility but in his first season with the Rams after playing junior with the Westshore Rebels and Okanagan Sun, Polius has collected 3.5 sacks this season for a total loss of 24 yards.
PICK SIX: DB
Jacob Tkachuk started last game against Calgary with a bang, intercepting Dom Britton's pass on just the Dinos' second play from scrimmage and returning it 71 yards to the end zone for a touchdown. It was the fourth longest interception return in U of R history and also the Rams' first pick six since Anthony Bennett had one in 2022.
MORE PICKS: DB
Carson Sombach also had an interception for the Rams in Week 6 against the Dinos. The Rams are tied for second in Canada West with eight picks this season, just one short of Calgary's conference-leading total of nine. Besides Tkachuk and Sombach, DB
Max Polischuk has a pair of interceptions while LB
Garret Hatchard, DB
Michael Jourdan, LB
Cameron Mah, and LB
Brandon Wong all have one apiece.
NEW LOOK RAMS: The Rams have gone with three different colour combinations in the three games since unveiling their new Under Armour jerseys in Week 2. They wore green jerseys with green pants in their Week 2 and Week 3 home games and the white/white combination in the Week 4 and Week 5 away games before debuting a fresh look against Calgary in Week 6 with green jerseys and white pants. Equipment manager
Bob Thomas expects to unveil a fourth combination on Saturday with the Rams wearing white jerseys and green pants.
TEAM CAPTAINS: The Rams have seven captains this season including LB
Cameron Mah, LB
Chopper Hippe, QB
Noah Pelletier, DB
Jackson Sombach, RB
Christian Katende, OL
Connor Klassen, OL
Parker Hodel, and SB
Rylan Sokul.
DRAFT REPORT: The Rams had two players selected in the 2024 CFL Draft. SB
D'Sean Mimbs went in the sixth round to the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the 50th overall selection, while DB
Jackson Sombach was taken in the seventh round (60th overall) by the Calgary Stampeders. Both players are back with the Rams this season. LB
Chopper Hippe, OL
Connor Klassen, and DB
Dolani Robinson all participated in the U SPORTS East-West Bowl earlier this year. This year's East-West Bowl was a showcase which featured (for the most part) players available for selection in the 2025 CFL Draft.
RAMS TERRITORY: This year's roster features a total of 98 players, 66 of whom call Saskatchewan home. The Rams also have 15 Albertans, 9 from British Columbia, 4 from Ontario, 1 from Manitoba (DL
Praise Odogun), 1 from Quebec (RB
Olivier Savard), 1 from Arizona (DB
Cedric McCallum), and 1 from Washington (DL
Maliq Washington).
