Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars drop 3-0 decision to Manitoba

Bisons goalie Holt stops all 31 saves, registers assist in win

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Manitoba on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It looked as though the two teams might head into the first intermission deadlocked at 0-0, but the Cougars were whistled for a late holding minor and Manitoba's power play came through with just nine seconds left in the period. Dawson Pasternak stepped into a one-timer from the top of the right circle which was blocked by Regina's Christian Riemer, but the puck bounced right to Skyler Bruce who had a wide-open net.
  • Only one goal was scored in the second, again by Bruce. Michael King sent a long pass up to Bruce to send him in one-on-one, and Bruce finished off the play with a nice backhander to put the Bisons up by two. Manitoba goalie Braden Holt, who started the play by getting the puck to King, drew the second assist on Bruce's 14th goal of the season.
  • Cody Behun all but sealed the win after taking advantage of a failed clearing attempt midway through the third and scoring his fifth of the year.

NOTES
  • Manitoba improves to 6-15-2 with the win and pull to within six points of MacEwan for the final playoff berth in Canada West's East Division.
  • Regina held a 31-25 advantage in shots on goal, but Holt saved all 31 shots to notch his first Canada West shutout.
  • Cougars goalie Jackson Fellner stopped 22 of Manitoba's 25 shots.
  • Manitoba finished 1-for-3 on the power play while Regina was 0-for-2.
