Paced by Ian Teichler's fifth-place finish, the University of Regina's men's team placed second in the overall standings at the 2025 Canada West Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Victoria, B.C.

The Cougars' second-place finish is the best by the men's team since Canada West started to host a standalone championship meet beginning with the 2019 season. The team's previous best finish was fifth, which the Cougars finished at that initial meet in 2019.

Teichler finished with a time of 26:13 on the 8K course, which meandered through the Royal Roads University campus and along Esquimalt Lagoon. The second-year runner's finish earned him Canada West first-team all-star honours, marking the fourth consecutive season the Cougars have had a first-team conference all-star.

The Cougars also boasted a trio of Canada West second-team all-star performances. Brett MacLean placed 8th with a time of 26:28, rookie Alec Teichler was 11th (26:37), and newcomer Adonias Downes finished 14th (26:47). Running in his first conference meet, Alec Teichler also landed on the Canada West All-Rookie Team thanks to his run.

Jacob Klassen rounded out the U of R's scoring five, placing 27th with a time of 27:22. The Cougars finished with 65 points, 25 behind first-place Victoria and 18 ahead of third-place UBC.

Harper Lebell was the lone representative of the women's team. Running in her second Canada West meet with the Cougars, Lebell finished in 58th place with an 8K time of 34:53.

The Cougars will now prepare to wrap up the season at the U SPORTS Championships to be held in Sherbrooke, Que. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
