Women's Hockey
The Cougars women's hockey team was in Edmonton over the weekend for a series against MacEwan.
Â
Friday's game was a battle. The Cougars struck first, when
Tessa Stewart scored a power-play goal early in the 1
st period. However, the Griffins answered back, scoring a power-play goal of their own less than six minutes later.
Â
The game remained tied 1-1 for the remainder of regulation, but a late MacEwan penalty gave the Cougars a power play heading into overtime.
Â
The Cougars took advantage. Less than a minute into the extra frame,
Julianne Girardin scored the game-winner and the Cougars took it 2-1.
Â
Stewart and Girardin both also had assists, giving them each two points on the night.
Meg Farmer and
Makena Kushniruk also had assists.
Â
Natalie Williamson had 26 saves in net.
Â
Saturday's game was another defensive battle, with both teams scoreless through the first two periods.
Â
However, it was the Cougars that would put an end to the stalemate.
Brooke Fofonoff's 1
st career Canada West goal would end up being the decider, as the Cougars would go on to win 1-0.

Amy Swayze got the start in net and 28 saves in her second shutout of the season.

The Cougars will host Mount Royal on Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday Nov. 15

Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team looked to continue their hot start in a home series against Lethbridge.
Â
On Friday, the game started off slow, with the Cougars holding a narrow 6-5 lead after the 1
st quarter. However, they responded with a huge 27-point 2
nd quarter to take a 33-9 lead into halftime and finished with a 79-28 win.

Jade Belmore led all scorers with 19 points on 50% shooting, while adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
Cara Misskey also had double digits, finishing with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

On Saturday, it was all Cougars from the jump. They led 55-20 at the half and ended up winning 101-48. It was the first time that the Cougars had scored over 100 points since a 108-95 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Nov. 11, 2022.

It was a record-breaking night for
Jade Belmore, who became the all-time leading scorer in University of Regina history when she scored her 1440
th career point in the 3
rd quarter. She finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Izzi Fust hit 4-7 triples and finished with 14 points.

The Cougars will head to Victoria next weekend to take on the University of Victoria Vikes.

Men's Hockey
The Cougars men's hockey team hosted MacEwan over the weekend.
Â
The Cougars struck first on Friday, when
Jackson Doucet scored a power-play goal nine minutes into the game. MacEwan answered later in the frame, then the Cougars once responded once more, when Doucet scored his second of the game early in the 2
nd.

With the Cougars leading 2-1, MacEwan would score two consecutive goals to start the 3
rd to take the lead. But, a power-play goal by
Blake Heward made the score 3-3 and sent the game to overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the Cougars outscored MacEwan in the shootout to get their first win of the season.
Â
Damon Cunningham had 29 saves in the win.
Â
On Saturday, the Cougars lost 6-1. MacEwan scored the fist 5 goals of the game, but
Cole Wirun got the Cougars on the board in the 2
nd period.

The Cougars will head to Calgary on the weekend to take on Mount Royal.
Men's Basketball
The Cougars men's basketball team hosted the University of Lethbridge over the weekend.
Â
On Friday, the Cougars were outscored 18-11 in the 4
th quarter and lost 70-65.
Sufyan Elkannan led the Cougars with 16 points.
Kaz Dornstauder (11) and
Isaiah Bay (10) both added double digits.
Â
Saturday was a day for the history books. After
Jade Belmore became the U of R's all-time leading scorer,
Lodie Kenyi had one of the greatest single game performances in U SPORTS history in a 105-84 win for the Cougars.

He had a program record 58 points on 21-29 shooting and added 9 rebounds and 5 assists. His 58 points are the second most ever scored in a Canada West game, the 5
th most scored in any U SPORTS game, and the most scored in a game since 1995.
Â
Kenyi's 26.0 points per game put him second in the nation.
Â
The 2-2 Cougars will head to Victoria to face #2 ranked Victoria on the weekend.

Cross Country
The Cougars men's cross country team headed to Sherbrooke, Que. to compete in the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Â
The Cougars finished in 11
th place out of the 24 competing schools.
Ian Teichler was the highest placing Cougar. He finished in 27
th with a time of 00:25:28.

Swimming
The Cougars swimming team competed in the UBC University Cup Pacific in Vancouver, B.C. over the weekend.
Â
16 athletes competed for the Cougars. The men's team accumulated 230.5 points, while the women's team finished with 261 points.
