QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was defeated in three sets by UBC Okanagan on Friday night in Kelowna, B.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UBC Okanagan went on an early 5-0 run in the first with Olivia Boulding serving and never trailed again in the opening set. The Heat went on another 5-0 run with Amaya Perry getting four of those points off kills, putting the home side up 14-6. Regina collected five out of six points after UBC Okanagan went up 23-13, but another Perry kill put an end to the late surge and the Heat won the opener 25-18.
- The Cougars built off the momentum from their mini-run to end the first set, going on an 8-1 run to take control of the second set and take a 16-11 lead. But they weren't able to close it out after going up 20-16, as Kylan Finseth served eight consecutive times and a Madison Gardner kill finished off a 25-21 comeback win for UBC Okanagan.
- The third set was all UBC Okanagan as the Heat reeled off nine straight points to go up 12-3 and cruised to a 25-16 match-clinching win.
NOTES
- The Cougars (5-15) were eliminated from postseason contention, as they went into the weekend needing to win both matches in three or four sets to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
- UBC Okanagan (5-12) was led by Perry's 12 kills while Gardner finished with 11 and Boulding put down 10.
- Devyn Grimsrud led Regina with eight kills.
