Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Misskey sets U of R all-time assists mark as No. 4 Cougars move to 13-0

Fifth-year guard registers 390th career assist in victory

QUICKLY
  • Cara Misskey became the University of Regina women's basketball program's all-time assists leader on Friday night as the No. 4-ranked Cougars cruised to an 83-56 road win over the Winnipeg Wesmen.

ASSIST QUEEN
  • Misskey handed out four assists in the victory to reach 390 for her career, breaking the previous school record of 389 set by Jana Schweitzer following the 2004-05 season.
  • Fittingly, the record-breaking assist came on a bucket by Jade Belmore as the two fifth-year teammates connected midway through the fourth quarter. Coming off a pick-and-roll, Belmore slipped to the basket and Misskey delivered a bounce pass for a wide-open layup.
  • The veteran guard is now just 10 assists shy of becoming the 11th player in Canada West history to reach 400 career assists. She also needs 12 more assists to surpass former Victoria standout Lindsay Brooke and move into the conference's all-time top 10.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Misskey led all players with 18 points as four Cougars reached double figures in scoring. Belmore added 17 points, Eden Wells finished with 15, and Izzi Fust chipped in with 11, while Lilly Vande Graaf added nine.
  • Fust also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, and Wells contributed six boards and six assists.
  • Jennifer Kallon led Winnipeg (2-11) with 13 points.

STANDINGS UPDATE
  • All four of the Prairie Division's top teams picked up wins on Friday night. Along with Regina's victory over Winnipeg, Calgary and Saskatchewan earned road wins over MacEwan and Lethbridge, respectively, while Alberta defeated Manitoba at home.
  • The Cougars and Saskatchewan remain tied atop the division at 13-0, with Alberta and Calgary sitting third at 11-2.

NEXT UP
  • The two teams will meet again Saturday night at the University of Winnipeg's Duckworth Centre. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
