No. 6 ranked Wesmen sweep Cougars in Winnipeg

QUICKLY
  • The Cougars were swept by the No. 6 ranked Winnipeg Wesmen over the weekend, falling 90-64 on Friday and 91-67 on Saturday.
FRIDAY NOTES
  • The Cougars stayed within reach early and were down by as little as five points in the second quarter, but the Wesmen responded with a 15-0 run in just under five minutes and took an 18-point lead into the half. They held on to win 90-64.
  • Kaz Dornstauder led the Cougars with 18 points on 9-of-16 shooting, while adding five rebounds, a block, and a steal.
  • Gurech Gurech added 15 points on 66 percent shooting from the field.
  • Alberto Gordo had 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists for the Wesmen.
SATURDAY NOTES
  • On Saturday, the Wesmen outscored the Cougars 54-28 in the first half en route to a  91-67 win.
  • Lodie Kenyi and Sufyan Elkannan led the Cougars with 11 points each.
  • Dornstauder also reached double digits, scoring 10 points while shooting 100 percent from the field.
  • Donald Stewart scored 20 points for the Wesmen.
STANDINGS                                                        
  • After the weekend, the Cougars fall to 4-10 and are tied for eighth place in the Prairie Division, with the top seven teams advancing to the playoffs.
  • Winnipeg improves to 11-3 and holds a one-game lead over Alberta for first place in the division.
