Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Misskey, Belmore lift No. 7 Cougars to road win over No. 4 Calgary

Late fourth-quarter push gives Regina victory in battle of 10-0 teams

QUICKLY
  • Cara Misskey and Jade Belmore both had 20-point efforts and the No. 7-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team overcame a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit in a 72-67 win over No. 4 Calgary on Friday night in Calgary.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Calgary led for the majority of the game after going on a 10-0 run midway through the opening quarter. The Dinos led by as many as 12 points after going up 35-23 in the second quarter.
  • Calgary's Christine Geraldo hit a jumper early in the fourth quarter to put Calgary up 10, but the Cougars conceded just two more Dinos field goals the rest of the way. Izzi Fust's layup with just under a minute remaining gave the Cougars their first lead of the game. Fust was fouled on the attempt giving her an and-one attempt, which hit rim but Misskey was there to grab the rebound. Belmore hit a jumper to extend Regina's lead to four, and the veteran All-Canadian got a steal on Calgary's next possession to all but seal the win.
  • Misskey was 11-for-19 from the field and finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
  • Belmore had 20 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter alone. She also had six rebounds, three steals, and a pair of assists in the win.

DIVISION IMPLICATIONS
  • Friday's Canada West action saw the four undefeated Prairie Division teams cut down to just two as the Cougars defeated Calgary and Saskatchewan took a 59-54 victory over Alberta in Edmonton.
