Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Trinity Western collects late-season sweep over Cougars

Regina has bye week upcoming, then hosts Saskatchewan to finish conference schedule

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Trinity Western on both Friday and Saturday in Langley, B.C.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Trinity Western won Friday's match by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-16. The second set saw TWU call timeouts after Regina burst out to 11-5 and 16-10 leads, but the Spartans came back strong out of both breaks and a late 12-3 run gave them control.
  • Jordy McEachern led Regina with eight kills while hitting .241 for the match. Reese Stroeder and Anna Schultz both had six digs to pace the Cougars in that category.
  • Maryn Boldon (12) and Kaylee Plouffe (10) led Trinity Western in kills.

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • The second match of the weekend also went to TWU in straight sets as the Spartans took 25-17, 25-21, and 25-13 victories to clinch their 13th Canada West victory of the season.
  • Piper Harkness had a team-high six kills on just seven attacks for the Cougars while also leading the team with five blocks. Cassadi Klapak registered 20 assists while leading all Cougars with 9 digs.
  • Boldon again led Trinity Western with 12 kills and also led all players with 11 digs as she recorded the match's lone double-double.

PLAYOFF RACE
  • The Cougars head into the final two Canada West weekends just one win out of the conference playoffs, setting up a must-win situation on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 against Saskatchewan.
  • To qualify for the Canada West postseason, the Cougars must defeat Saskatchewan twice as well as hope for some help on the out-of-town scoreboard. They need at least one UBC Okanagan (5-13) loss as well as either Calgary (6-10) or Winnipeg (6-12) losing all of their remaining matches.

NEXT UP
  • Along with most of the conference, the Cougars have next weekend off before finishing the Canada West schedule with a U-Prairie Challenge series against the Huskies. The two teams will meet on Thursday, Feb. 12 (7:30 PM) and Friday, Feb. 13 (7:00 PM).
