University of Regina first-year goaltender
Amy Swayze was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team on Wednesday night, earning national recognition after an outstanding debut season with the Cougars.
Swayze, from Weyburn, Sask. and a product of the Weyburn Gold Wings program, quickly established herself as one of the top goaltenders in Canada West. She appeared in 17 conference games and posted a 6-9-1 record while compiling an impressive 2.14 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage.
The first-year netminder was at her best in key moments throughout the season, registering two shutouts. She turned aside all 31 shots she faced in a 3-0 home victory over Calgary on Oct. 4 and followed that up with a 28-save performance in a 1-0 road win over MacEwan on Nov. 8.
Swayze becomes just the fourth player in program history to be named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team, joining Karissa Swan (2006), Alexis Larson (2013), and Jaycee Magwood (2016).
