Shelaine Pritchard placed third in the heptathlon to lead a small group of University of Regina student-athletes competing at the 2026 Canadian Track & Field Championships held last weekend at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa.
Two other Cougars also competed in the event as
Alec Teichler was fifth in the U20 division of the 1500-metre run while
Makenna Self was sixth in the U20 long jump.
Competing in her third heptathlon of the outdoor season, Pritchard finished with a total of 5213 points to lock up bronze in the seven-discipline event. She finished first in both the shot put and the 200-metre dash competitions while setting outdoor personal-best times in both the 200 (24.32) and the 800-metre run (2:23.40).
Teichler finished with a time of 3:53.40 in Saturday's U20 1500 final, just being edged out for fourth place by University of Michigan commit Kenneth Champ. Teichler also competed in the U20 3000-metre run on Sunday, winning his heat and finishing in 10th place with an outdoor personal-best time of 8:36.25.
Self had a top effort of 5.28 metres in her third attempt of the U20 long jump to place sixth overall. It was her second longest jump of her career, trailing only her personal best of 5.39 metres that she registered while competing for Dr. Charles Best Secondary at last year's BCSS Track & Field Provincials. Self also just missed out on the prelims in the U20 100-metre dash, finishing with a time of 12.54 seconds in Wednesday's qualifying heat.
