Rams toppled by Dinos in Calgary

The University of Calgary Dinos were dominant on both sides of the ball on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Regina Rams by a 31-5 score in a Canada West game at McMahon Stadium.

The Rams trailed by only three after the first quarter, but the Dinos outscored Regina by a 15-3 margin in the second to take a 15-point lead into halftime. Calgary increased the lead to 28 after three, and the Rams' only points in the second half were scored on a safety in the fourth quarter.

The win improves Calgary's record to 4-2, while the Rams (3-3) fall into a share of fourth place in the conference with Manitoba.

Running back Matt Walter had a spectacular game for Calgary, rushing 27 times for 200 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Deke Junior threw for 150 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 72 yards and a major of his own.

Regina running back Luke Derkson was held to just 60 rushing yards, while Teale Orban was 22-for-40 with 224 passing yards. Brenden Owens was Regina's top receiver with seven catches for 80 yards.

The Dinos defence recovered two fumbles and picked off Orban three times. Calgary's defence was led by Steve Truzak, who had two interceptions and two tackles.

Brandon Ganne had 7.5 tackles to led the Rams.

The Rams will travel to Edmonton next weekend for a game against the University of Alberta, while Calgary will play a road game at Manitoba.
