A late sack and forced fumble by University of Regina linebacker Thomas Irving secured a 28-15 win for the Rams over the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West game at Mosaic Stadium.

The Golden Bears had just one point in the first three quarters, but scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to climb back into the game. Alberta had the ball in the final minute with a chance to drive downfield late, but Irving sacked Golden Bears quarterback Quade Armstrong, causing a fumble that was recovered by the Rams on Alberta's own one-yard line. The Rams scored on the ensuing play to seal the victory.

The win improves Regina's Canada West record to 3-2 and moves the Rams into a tie with Calgary for third place in the conference.

Teale Orban completed 23 of his 33 passes and became Canada West's all-time leader in career pass completions during the game, breaking the old record of 611 held by Calgary's Greg Vavra. Orban ended up with 242 yards and one touchdown pass. Chad Goldie was Regina's top receiver, catching eight balls for 89 yards, while Luke Derkson rushed for a game-high 88 yards on the ground. Mark McConkey's 32-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was the first of his CIS career.

Regina's Perri Scarcelli attempted four field goals, all from at least 40 yards out. Scarcelli was successful on two of his four attempts, hitting from 42 and 50.

Armstrong was 19-for-33 for 240 yards and a touchdown. Damon Fraietta, one of four Alberta receivers to record four catches during the game, led the Golden Bears with 63 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Brandon Ganne had yet another strong game defensively for Regina, recording nine total tackles, two pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. Bruce Anderson had seven tackles and also blocked an Alberta punt.

Greg Whelan led the Golden Bear defence with two forced fumbles and also had 7.5 tackles.

The win improves the Rams' record to 3-2, while the Golden Bears fall to 1-5 on the season.

Next week, the Rams will travel to Calgary for a game against the Dinos, while Alberta (1-5) has its bye week.
