The University of Regina's men's basketball team trailed Calgary by just five points heading into the final quarter on Saturday, but ended up losing 96-70 to the No. 7-ranked Dinos.
Calgary outscored the Cougars by a 32-11 margin in the fourth to put the game away. Regina ran into foul trouble late in the game, as
Kris Heshka,
Jamal Williams, and
Paul Schubach all fouled out in the final quarter. For the game, the Cougars had 37 fouls to Calgary's 21.
Tyler Fidler led the Dinos with 23 points, while Henry Bekkering scored 20. Ross Bekkering (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Robbie Sihota (13 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles for Calgary.
Jeff Lukomski and Heshka led the Cougars with 13 points each. Williams, Schubach, and
Marek Downarowicz all pulled down eight rebounds for Regina.
The loss drops the Cougars' record to 2-2 on the season, but the U of R remains tied with Brandon for the lead in the Great Plains Division.
The Cougars return to action on Friday and Saturday with home games against Victoria (4-2) and British Columbia (6-0). Both games will tip off at 8 p.m.
