The University of Regina's women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2008 season on Saturday morning, losing 1-0 to the No. 6-ranked Manitoba Bisons in a Canada West game at University Stadium in Winnipeg.

The lone goal of the contest came just over four minutes into the match after Manitoba's Caley Miskimmin scored her second goal of the young season. Stephanie Rurak was credited with the assist on Miskimmin's strike.

Ashley Forbes recorded the shutout for Manitoba without registering a save. Regina's Michelle Anderson made 11 saves for the Cougars.

"With the exception of the early goal, we were very tight defensively against a quick team," Cougars head coach Bob Maltman said after the game. "We had several opportunities to create some chances only to be thwarted by indecision or quality of touch. We're definitely coming along."

Manitoba is in sole possession of first place in Canada West with a perfect 3-0-0 record. The loss drops Regina's record to 0-1-2.

These two teams will meet again on Sunday. Match time is scheduled for noon at Manitoba's University Stadium.
