Luke Derkson rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown to help the University of Regina Rams record a 31-7 win over the Simon Fraser Clan on Saturday afternoon in front of 1550 spectators at Mosaic Stadium.

The Rams set the tone early in this game. Kicking off into a wind that was gusting over 60 km/h to start the contest, Regina's Perri Scarcelli booted a ball almost straight up, which was recovered by the Rams on Simon Fraser's 46-yard line. On the very first play from scrimmage, Derkson scampered 46 yards for the major to put the Rams ahead early.

Regina led 7-3 after one quarter, then scored ten unanswered points in the second quarter with the wind to take a 17-3 lead into halftime. The Rams led 24-7 after three quarters, then added seven more in the final frame to round out the scoring.

The win improves the Rams' record to 2-2, which ties them with Manitoba for fourth place in the conference. Simon Fraser (3-2) entered the weekend in first place in Canada West, but drop to third place with the loss.

Rams quarterback Teale Orban completed 13 of his 27 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Sisco led all Rams receivers with four catches for 72 yards and a touchdown, while Chad Goldie had 53 receiving yards and a touchdown reception. Bruce Anderson had a huge game defensively for Regina, as he recorded a team-leading 6½ tackles, had two interceptions, and recovered a fumble. In total, the Rams' defence recovered four fumbles and had three picks.

Simon Fraser quarterback Bernd Dittrich played only the first three quarters and threw for 64 yards, while leading rusher Marek Seta had 48 yards on the ground. Mark Bailey led SFU with nine total tackles. David Eshleman had three tackles, forced and recovered a fumble, had an interception, and blocked a kick for the Clan. Nigel Palma also blocked a kick for SFU, getting his hands on a Scarcelli punt in the third quarter.

Regina exactly doubled SFU in total offence during the game, recording 400 yards to the Clan's 200.

The Rams will play at home again next weekend, squaring off with Alberta (1-4) on Saturday. The Clan will play host to Manitoba (2-2) on Friday night.
