Box Score
University of Saskatchewan running back Dathan Thomas had four touchdowns on the ground to help the Huskies improve their season record to 2-0 with a victory over the Regina Rams by a score of 42-14 on Saturday afternoon in front of 3,382 spectators at Mosaic Stadium.
After trailing 14-7 at the half, a
Brandon Ganne interception gave the Rams the ball at Saskatchewan's 39-yard line. A quick drive resulted in a
Chris King touchdown reception that tied up the game at 14, but it was all Huskies after that. The next three majors were all Thomas runs and the Huskies added one more late in the game off of a 16-yard run by Connor MacDougall on a fake field goal.
Thomas ended up with 14 carries for 52 yards. Starting in place of injured quarterback Laurence Nixon, Saskatchewan's Trevor Barss completed 16 of 21 passes for 290 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown pass to Travis Gorski in the first quarter.
Dan Houle led the Huskies with five catches, while Gorski had a game-high 105 receiving yards despite having only three receptions. Gorski also had three punt returns for a total of 73 yards, including a 56-yard scamper on the first play of the fourth quarter following a missed
Perri Scarcelli field goal.
Regina pivot
Teale Orban completed 28 of his 42 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown. During the game, Orban became just the third quarterback in Canada West history to pass for at least 8000 career yards.
Running back
Luke Derkson led the Rams with six catches and 52 receiving yards, and also had a game-high 115 rushing yards.
Mark McConkey and
