Box Score

The University of Alberta Golden Bears vaulted into third place in the Canada West standings after recording a 33-22 victory over the Regina Rams on Saturday afternoon at Foote Field in Edmonton.

Alberta led by just two points at halftime, but the Rams were simply unable to generate any offence in the second half. Alberta held Regina off the scoreboard for the first 29 minutes of the half, and a Matthew Jarvis touchdown with just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter essentially iced the game for the Golden Bears.

Alberta's win creates a quagmire in the Canada West playoff race, with four teams jockeying for the final two postseason berths in the conference. The Golden Bears and the Rams are both 3-3, with Alberta holding the tiebreaker due to Saturday's victory. Just behind them is Simon Fraser (3-4), with sixth-place Manitoba (2-4) also holding a very real chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

Golden Bears kicker Hugh O'Neill was successful on all four of his field goal attempts, including from 47 and 50 yards out. Quade Armstrong completed 16 of his 29 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown with David Court (4 catches for 50 yards) as his main target. Jarvis ended up with 99 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Tendayi Jozzy had 74 yards on 14 carries.

Jason Hetherington had two more interceptions for Alberta, running his conference-leading total up to eight for the season. No other Canada West player has more than four.

Jordan Sisco led the Rams with ten catches for 143 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Marc Mueller completed 26 of his 41 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown, while Graham Mosiondz had a team-high 78 rushing yards.

Still in full control of their own playoff destiny, the Rams will be back in action next weekend with a road game at No. 3-ranked Calgary (5-1). Regina will clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Dinos or a win over Saskatchewan on Oct. 24.

NOTES:
Sisco jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 on the U of R's career receiving yards list, passing Chris Bauman and Michael Thomas … Sisco also surpassed Jason Clermont for third on the U of R's career receptions list … Sisco now has 124 catches for 1786 yards over his four-season career with the Rams … Jeff Lukomski recorded his first career interception during the third quarter.
