Cougars improve to 2-1 after straight-sets win over Saskatchewan

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the Saskatchewan Huskies in straight sets on Friday night in Saskatoon.

Ranked No. 7 in this week's CIS poll, the Cougars won 25-17 in the first set, 25-21 in the second, and clinched the match with a 25-17 win in the third set.

Beth Clark and Meagan Onstad tied for the match lead with 12 kills for the Cougars. Onstad's 12 kills came on just 20 attacks, giving her a .600 hitting percentage. Kaitlyn Hughes and Tiffany Herman both had eight digs for Regina, while Herman had 34 assists.

Ashley Schurko led Saskatchewan with seven kills and nine digs.

The two teams will meet again in Saskatoon on Saturday night. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NOTES: The Cougars are now 11-1 against the Huskies in their last 12 meetings, but Saskatchewan still holds a 17-14 advantage in the all-time series.
