Cougars take five-set win over Thompson Rivers

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team improved to 4-1 on the season after winning a five-set marathon over Thompson Rivers on Friday night in Kamloops, B.C.

The No. 7-ranked Cougars dropped the first set by a 25-19 score, but recorded 25-16 and 25-20 wins in the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The WolfPack edged the Cougars 25-23 in the fourth to force a fifth set, which the Cougars took by a 19-17 margin.

Beth Clark led the Cougars with 14 kills and eight assisted blocks, while Tiffany Herman had 41 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double. Meagan Onstad had 12 kills and 11 digs, while Kaitlyn Hughes had ten kills including the match-clinching swing in the fifth.

Amanda Frayne and Anna Dyakiewicz both had 24 kills for Thompson Rivers. Dyakiewicz also led all players with 22 digs.

The Cougars and Thompson Rivers (0-3) will meet again on Saturday night in Kamloops.
