The University of Regina's women's volleyball team hit for a season-high .316 percentage as the Cougars took a three-set victory over Thompson Rivers on Friday night in a Canada West match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars (2-3) opened the match with a 25-17 win in the first set, then took a 25-11 victory in the second after jumping out to an early 12-2 lead. The third set was tied at 8-8 following the first media timeout, but the Cougars took control with an 8-2 run and went on to clinch the match with a 25-19 win.
Solveig Nilson led the charge for the Cougars, scoring seven kills and a hitting for a team-high .778 percentage.
Tiffany Herman had the match's lone double-double, leading all players with 31 assists and 11 digs.
Meagan Onstad had a match-high 12 kills for Regina.
As a team, the Cougars had 37 kills and 12 errors on 79 total attacks while recording eight service aces and six blocks.
Kelly Asleson led Thompson Rivers in kills (9), digs (7), and blocks (4) as the WolfPack drop to 0-5 on the season. The WolfPack were held to a zero hitting percentage after registering 22 kills and 22 errors.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night following the men's game.
NOTES: Nilson had four blocks on Friday and moved into third place on the U of R's rally-point era career list with 154 career blocks … Nilson also moved into second place on the school's career list with 64 service aces.
