The University of Regina's men's basketball team recorded a close victory over Fraser Valley for the second consecutive night on Saturday, defeating the Cascades by an 87-83 margin in Abbotsford, B.C.

The Cougars led by five after a bucket by Darius Mole with 1:45 left in the fourth, but two consecutive baskets by Fraser Valley's Zeon Gray cut the lead to one with under a minute remaining. Both teams missed opportunities on back-to-back possessions, but Marek Downarowicz got a three-point play the old fashioned way to make it a two-possession game with 16 seconds remaining.

Paul Gareau scored a game-high 21 points for the Cougars and added a team-leading eight rebounds, while Downarowicz was 6-for-7 from the field and had a career-best 19 points. Darius Mole also had a career-high in points (16) and led the Cougars with six assists, while Jeff Lukomski scored 13 points.

Gray and Sam Freeman led Fraser Valley with 18 points.

The Cougars (12-6) will be back in action at home next weekend with a pair of games against No. 2-ranked UBC (16-2).

NOTES: Lukomski now has 1417 career points, just five behind Glen Nelson's all-time school record of 1422.
