For the second time in as many nights, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack came away with a come-from-behind five-set victory over the Regina Cougars in Canada West women's volleyball action on Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
After successfully coming back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five on Friday, Thompson Rivers came up with an even bigger comeback on Saturday night. After dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-17, the WolfPack needed to win three consecutive sets and did just that, taking 25-20, 25-21, and 15-10 wins to clinch the victory.
Kelly Asleson led Thompson Rivers with 11 kills and fell just one dig short of a double-double, while setter Kara Twomey had 29 assists, six blocks, and five digs. Vanessa Wiebe led the WolfPack at the net with 10 blocks, with Katarina Osadchuk adding six to go along with eight kills. Amanda Frayne, Anne Weiss, and Sara Pettersson all had 12 digs to lead Thompson Rivers.
Meagan Onstad blasted a career-high 24 kills in a losing cause for the Cougars, while setter
Tiffany Herman had 52 assists, a career-high 18 digs, and seven blocks.
Solveig Nilson had nine kills and a team-leading nine blocks, with
Chelsea Ziolkowski adding a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs.
Roxanne Olynyk also had 11 kills for Regina.
Thompson Rivers improves to 3-3 and will host Manitoba next weekend, while the Cougars fall to 2-4 and will hit the road for a pair of matches at Trinity Western next Friday and Saturday.
