The Canada West postseason begins on Friday night, as the No. 7-ranked University of Regina Rams host the Saskatchewan Huskies in a conference semifinal. The winner will advance to the Hardy Cup and will square off with the winner of Saturday's Calgary/Manitoba semifinal.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium. The game will be shown throughout western Canada on Shaw and live in Regina on Access7.

QUICK NOTES
• The two provincial rivals have met three times in Canada West semifinal games, with the Rams taking 58-31 (2001) and 19-13 (2007) victories in Regina and Saskatchewan winning 53-23 in Saskatoon back in 2009
• The all-time postseason series is tied at 2-2, as Saskatchewan also had a 44-28 road victory over the Rams in the 2002 Hardy Cup to claim the conference title
• The Rams scored a 35-26 road win over Saskatchewan back on Sept. 21 in the two teams' only game of the 2012 conference schedule
• The winner of this game will travel to Calgary for the Hardy Cup if the Dinos beat Manitoba on Saturday and will host the Canada West championship game if Manitoba upsets Calgary
• The Rams enter the game ranked No. 7 in the final CIS-FRC poll of the season, while Saskatchewan received votes but finished outside of the top ten
• The Rams have a 4-6 all-time record in Canada West semifinal games and are looking to advance to the Hardy Cup for the first time since the 2007 season

TEAM PREVIEW: NO. 7 REGINA (6-2)
Coming off their first shutout in school history, the No. 7-ranked University of Regina Rams tied a program high for most conference wins in a season (6) and are riding a two-game winning streak heading into the playoffs.

Last Friday's 19-0 win was the second consecutive stellar defensive effort by the Rams, as they scored a 12-9 victory over then-No. 2 Calgary the week before. Logan Brooks led the defensive effort for the U of R, tying for the team lead with 4½ tackles and registering two tackles for loss.

Quarterback Marc Mueller dressed for the first time since being injured against Manitoba and got the start, completing seven of 12 passes for 77 yards before making way for backup Frankie Gray after a quarter and a half.

Mueller is expected to get the start again on Friday against Saskatchewan. His targets will include slotback Jared Janotta, whose 44 receptions during the conference schedule stand as the fourth most in a single season by a University of Regina receiver. Wide receiver Kolten Solomon was second on the team in both receptions (36) and receiving yards (471) and caught a team-leading four touchdown passes during Canada West play, while slotback Jay Smith caught 27 passes for 359 yards.

Michael Kiapway led the Rams with 571 rushing yards this season, but Dillon Dawson got the start at running back in Week 8 and Mark Coons got several late-game carries as well.

The Rams' defensive backfield has been among the most prolific in the nation this year, tying for the CIS lead with 16 interceptions as a team. Jamir Walker and Kirby Kezama both tied for the team lead with four picks each, while Justin Edralin ended up with three. Chris Sciog led the Rams with 42 total tackles, while Ryan Wellman had a team-high 7½ tackles for loss and tied Benton Gieni for the team lead with three sacks.

The Rams come into Friday's contest with a 6-10 all-time record in postseason games.

TEAM PREVIEW: SASKATCHEWAN (5-3)
After starting out the conference schedule with wins in two of their first five games, Saskatchewan comes into the playoffs on a three-game winning streak after consecutive victories over Manitoba, Alberta, and UBC.

Saskatchewan's offence is controlled by first-year quarterback Drew Burko, though Chase Bradshaw has seen extensive action at pivot for the Huskies this season. Burko has the better numbers, completing 96 of his 147 passes for 1257 yards, 10 touchdowns, and a 65.3% completion rate. Burko's pass efficiency rating is 152.8 compared to Bradshaw's 118.2

Kit Hillis has been a revelation for the Huskies this season. After collecting five catches last season as a second-year player, he exploded to lead the conference in receptions (57), receiving yards (797), and touchdown catches (8) this year – all this despite playing in only six of the team's eight games. Hillis's exploits overshadowed Mitch Stevens, who had a fine season in his own right with 28 catches for 413 yards and five touchdowns.

Shane Buchanan should get the start at tailback for the Huskies. Despite playing in only the final three games of the season for Saskatchewan, Buchanan collected 291 yards and averaged 6.5 yards per rush.

Corbin Eskelson was Saskatchewan's leading tackler, collecting 39 total tackles while playing in six Canada West games. Eskelson also had two fumble recoveries and an interception, while David Rybinski had a team-high 4½ sacks for the Huskies. Mitch Friesen led Saskatchewan with three interceptions this season, while Bryce McCall, Travoy Martinez, and Braxton Lawrence all had a pair of picks.

RAMS MILESTONE WATCH
• QB Marc Mueller set a University of Regina single-season record with a 67.8% pass completion rate this season and also will end as the U of R's career leader (62.1%)
• RB Michael Kiapway's five touchdown runs this season are tied for third in the University of Regina's single-season record book
• SB Jared Janotta had 44 catches during the conference schedule, which ranks fourth in school single-season history
• CB Jamir Walker and HB Kirby Kezama both had four interceptions, which tie for second in the U of R's single-season record book
