The No. 2-ranked Alberta Golden Bears got off to a quick start and never looked back in an 83-61 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in a Canada West men's basketball game in Edmonton.
Alberta went on a 16-3 run in the opening quarter to take control of the game and led by 17 at halftime. The Golden Bears led by as many as 25 points in the second half before the Cougars got three-pointers from rookie
Ryan Delwo,
Travis Sylvestre, and
Brendan Hebert on consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 14.
Another Hebert triple got the U of R back to within 14 with four minutes left, but Alberta put an end to the chance of an improbable comeback with a 10-0 run down the stretch.
Three Golden Bears broke into double figures in scoring, including Sahr Saffa's game-high 17 points. Jordan Baker added 16 points, while Youssef Ouahrig chipped in with 12 points as Alberta improves to 4-0 on the season.

Brandon Tull added nine.
The Cougars (1-3) will host a University of Saskatchewan squad next weekend that was ranked No. 5 in the CIS last poll and has started out the Canada West schedule with a 4-0 record.Â
