Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars defeated by TRU in five

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team pushed Friday's match to a deciding set, but ultimately fell short in a five-set loss to Thompson Rivers on Friday night in Kamloops, B.C.

Thompson Rivers took the first and third sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-18 only to have the Cougars come back and square the match after wins in both the second (25-22) and fourth (25-16). That set the stage for the winner-takes-all fifth set, but it was all WolfPack in that one as the home side scored the first four points and six of the first seven en route to a 15-6 victory.

Iuliia Pakhomenko piled up a match-high 33 kills for TRU, the highest single-match total registered by a Canada West player in over a decade. Pakhomenko also added a team-leading 11 digs, while Tyneille Neufeld had 11 kills and Kara Twomey collected 48 assists.

Michelle Sweeting was solid for the Cougars, finishing with 17 kills and a .387 hitting percentage while leading all players with eight blocks. Tori Glynn and Chelsea Ziolkowski (pictured) both had 11 kills, while Ziolkowski collected a match-high 18 digs.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops (5 p.m. PDT).
