Men's Basketball

@CougsMBB to host No. 10 Dinos

After not playing away from the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport for the first 10 games of 2014-15, it'll be the second consecutive home weekend for the University of Regina's men's basketball team this Friday and Saturday.

The U of R hosts No. 10-ranked Calgary at the CKHS with game time scheduled for 8 p.m. both nights.

The Cougars (1-3) scored their first Canada West victory of the year last Friday against Manitoba, holding off the Bisons for a 98-85 win led by a 21-point effort from Brandon Tull and 19 points from both Alex Igual and Jonathan Tull. But the Cougars couldn't pull off the weekend sweep on Saturday, with Manitoba taking a 90-88 overtime victory despite 22 points from the younger Tull.

Though the Cougars have heavily utilized the same starting five in all four Canada West games this season, that'll change this weekend. Igual was injured in the first half of Saturday's loss and isn't expected to suit up against the Dinos, but fourth-year post Jeremy Zver returns to the lineup after the University of Regina Rams were ousted in the Canada West semifinals last weekend. Zver, who starts at left tackle for the Rams, could even draw right into the starting lineup where he'd join Will Tallman, Travis Sylvestre, and both Tulls.

In his first season with the Cougars after transferring over from Acadia University, Jonathan Tull leads the team and is fifth in Canada West with an average of 19 points per game. Brandon Tull is averaging 15 points after his big weekend against the Bisons, while Igual averages 14.5 points per contest. Tallman is the team's leading rebounder with a total of 26 on the season.

Calgary (4-0) broke into this week's CIS Top Ten after a weekend sweep over Brandon to give them four consecutive victories to open the Canada West schedule. Four of the Dinos' five usual starters are averaging over 10 points per game, including Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson (16.0), Dallas Karch (11.2), Lars Schlueter (10.5), and Philip Barndt (10.2). Ogungbemi-Jackson, a fifth-year guard from Winnipeg, is also the team's leader in rebounds per game (7.5) and assists (24).

Both games will be webcast live at www.canadawest.tv.
