• A Rams win will eliminate Saskatchewan from playoff contention, giving the Rams the chance to play the role of spoiler though they know they'll finish in sixth place in the Canada West standings this year
• A win by Saskatchewan would likely send the Huskies to Calgary for the Canada West semifinals, barring a massive Saturday upset by Alberta over No. 1-ranked Calgary
• Despite missing the Week 4 game due to injury, Atlee Simon needs 189 rushing yards to tie the U of R's single-season record - a lofty total, but one he's already matched or exceeded in three conference games this season

ALL ABOUT ATLEE: Atlee Simon leads Canada West with 783 rushing yards and ranks fourth in the nation with an average of 130.5 rushing yards per game. Though he's still 189 yards short of Adrian Charles' school rushing record, that's a total he's matched three times already this season - Simon had 189 against Alberta in Week 1, a career-high 207 at UBC in Week 2, and 198 two weeks ago in the last home game against Manitoba.

YARDSTICKS: The Rams are 0-7 on the season, but have actually put up more yards of offence than their opposition in five of those seven Canada West games. That includes a 532-452 edge over Alberta, a massive 562-346 advantage over UBC, a 490-473 edge over Saskatchewan, and 595-590 and 560-533 over Manitoba in the two games between those teams.

THE TARGETS: A quick look at the Rams' receiving corps shows incredible balance. No player has more than 35 catches on the season, but six Rams have at least 20. Mitchell Picton and Mitch Thompson lead the way with 35 and 32 receptions, respectively, while Picton has a team-leading 465 receiving yards to just edge Thompson's 464. In order, Riley Wilson, Richard Sindani, Davin Johnston, and Andrew Bennett have recorded 23, 22, 21, and 20 receptions this season. And not only are all six expected back next season, but only Bennett and Wilson are beyond their third seasons of CIS eligibility.

ROSSLER JUMPS INTO TACKLES LEAD: Mason Rossler enters Week 8 in a four-way tie for the Canada West lead with 47 tackles on the season, and also ranks fifth in the conference with 4½ sacks after picking up two of them last week at Calgary. Rossler has two forced fumbles on the season, and needs one more to join Aadon Fieger and Craig Zimmer as the only Rams ever to record three in a single Canada West season.

A LOOK AT THE FIFTH YEARS: There's five fifth-year players on this year's roster, including three that spent their entire careers at the U of R and two CJFL transfers.
• Kyle Paterson (Weyburn, Sask.) joined the Rams in 2010, immediately drawing into the lineup as a backup tackle. He emerged as a starter following a redshirt season in 2012, making starts at left tackle, left guard, and right guard over the next three seasons and earning a Canada West all-star nomination in 2014. A draft pick of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2014, Paterson will finish his CIS career with 37 career games played and 22 games started.
• Tyler Perkins (Campbell River, B.C.) redshirted with the Rams in 2009, played in five games in 2010, and has played a crucial role on the defensive line since returning in 2012 from a year off. Perkins started much of 2012 and all of 2013 and 2014 at defensive tackle, and has moved over to defensive end this season. Perkins, who's tied with Craig Zimmer for the U of R's all-time lead with three career blocked kicks, enters his final game with 51½ tackles, 9½ tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.
• Aaron Picton (Regina, Sask.) was a redshirt with the Rams in 2010, dressed as a backup for the 2011 season, and has been a starter on the offensive line since 2012. The versatile lineman, who has started at least three games at four of the five positions on the line in his career, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders earlier this year but had his rights traded to Saskatchewan in September. Picton will play in his 42nd career game on Friday and make his 30th career start.
• Keenan Carrier (Tisdale, Sask.) joined the Rams in 2014 after a five-season career with the Saskatoon Hilltops that saw him win back-to-back-to-back CJFL championships in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Carrier has started four games at right guard this year, but is still questionable for Friday's game after sustaining an injury two weeks ago against Manitoba.
• Andrew Fabian (Tilley, Alta.) also joined the Rams in 2014 after a five-season CJFL career, coming over to the U of R from the Calgary Colts organization. Fabian has never missed a PAT in his career (33-for-33), is the school's career leader in field goal percentage (70%), and two weeks ago uncorked a career-long 74-yard punt - the eighth-longest in U of R history. His average of 38.4 yards per punt trails only Jon Ryan and Chris Bodnar in the school's record book.

RAMS IN THE PROS: The Rams currently boast three former players in the NFL, including DL Stefan Charles (Buffalo), DL Akiem Hicks (New England), and P Jon Ryan (Seattle). OL Brett Jones was making a push for the New York Giants' 53-man roster, but suffered a suspected MCL sprain in their final preseason game and was put on injured reserve. Four former Rams are currently on CFL active rosters, including CB Tevaughn Campbell (Calgary), SB Chris Getzlaf (Saskatchewan), LS Jorgen Hus (Saskatchewan), and OL Brendon LaBatte (Saskatchewan). WR Addison Richards remains on Winnipeg's six-game injured list.

RAMS FAMILY TIES:

• DB Luke Wilson and SB Riley Wilson - brothers
• OL Aaron Picton/SB Mitchell Picton, QB Noah Picton, RB Blake Anaka - cousins
• Defensive line coach Greg Nesbitt and LB Danny Nesbitt - father/son
