TEAM OVERVIEWS
REGINA – The Cougars took Canada West-leading Alberta right down to the wire last Friday in Edmonton, but ended up losing by four to the Golden Bears and then suffered a 101-54 setback to Alberta the following night. Regina is now 8-6 this season and the Cougars are currently in a battle with Lethbridge for fourth in the Canada West RPI – a coveted spot considering only the top four in the conference receive a bye to the quarterfinals, while teams seeded five through 12 will battle it out in a winner-takes-all one-game play-in contest for the right to advance to those quarterfinals. The Cougars currently have six players averaging in double figures in scoring – Brandon Tull, Shawn Lathan, Brian Ofori, Alex Igual, Shaquille Harris, and Samuel Hillis all average between 10.6 and 13.0 points per game as Regina continues to feature an exceptionally balanced offence.

BRANDON – Along with Manitoba's Justus Alleyn and James Wagner and the Lethbridge combination of Dejon Burdeaux and Zac Overwater, the Brandon tandem of Tyvon Cooper and Jonathan Range is right up there in the conversation for the best one-two scoring punch in Canada West. Cooper is sixth in the league with an average of 21.3 points per game, while Range averages 17.9 points per game for the Bobcats. Cooper is also third in the conference in assists per game, while Range averages a team-leading 8.6 rebounds per contest. The Bobcats enter Friday's game with a 7-7 conference record and are currently ranked eighth in the conference in terms of RPI, which will be used this year to seed the 12 Canada West postseason teams.

ALL-TIME SERIES
While Brandon holds a big advantage in the all-time series thanks to the perennially strong Bobcats teams in the 1980s, 1990s, and the early part of this century, the Cougars have held a slight edge in the last decade or so. Despite Brandon winning both matchups over Regina last year, the Cougars have won 13 of the last 20 Canada West games played between the two teams dating back to the 2008-09 season.

CHART CLIMBING: BT EDITION
Fifth-year guard Brandon Tull continues his ascension up the University of Regina's all-time points list. He passed Brenan Schwartz for eighth in program history last weekend and also hit the 1300 barrier on Saturday against Alberta. He'll enter Friday's game with 1301 career points, which is just six behind seventh-place Kevin Gilroy (1307) and 18 behind sixth-place Paul Gareau (1319). After that, Tull can concentrate on closing in on a current U of R assistant coach – Joel Hunter currently occupies fifth place with 1359 career points.

QUOTABLE: COACH BURROWS
Keys to the weekend – "Our first-shot defence was all right last weekend, but then we didn't do a good job of rebounding the ball. We don't do that, we don't get tempo, and we play too much quarter court so hopefully we're better this weekend on the glass. With Brandon, we'll have to deal with Tyvon Cooper and Jonathan Range. They're too good to take away completely and they're going to get their points, but we'll try to make it tough on them and hopefully we can rebound and find some tempo."
