Jordy McEachern led all players with a huge 15-kill performance, but the University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to MacEwan on Saturday in Edmonton.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars jumped out to a big lead in the opening set after breaking an 11-11 tie by collecting the next five points and seven of the next eight. The Cougars led 19-13 before MacEwan started its comeback with four straight points, then another 4-0 MacEwan run gave the Griffins a 23-22 lead. A Claire Sheppard kill brought the score level again, but MacEwan took the next two points to eke out a 25-23 victory.
- McEachern caught fire with eight kills in the second set alone, but MacEwan pulled away for a 25-19 victory and then followed that up with a 25-20 win in the third to clinch the match.
NOTES
- McEachern's 15 kills were a three-set career high for the third-year outside hitter. She hit .294 for the match while also collecting five digs.
- Piper Harkness added seven kills and hit .313 for the Cougars.
- Cassadi Klapak had assists on 30 of the U of R's 38 kills.
NEXT UP
For the second consecutive weekend, the Cougars are back in action next Friday and Saturday in Edmonton. This time they'll head to #YEG to square off with Alberta (8-2).
