Cougar Rewind: Oct. 20/21/24/25

Golf
On Monday and Tuesday, the University of Regina Golf team competed at the Canada West Golf Championships, which was held at the Chilliwack Golf Club. Five members of the men's team and two members of the women's team competed.
 
Micah Tangjerd shot 70-76 (+2) to lead all Cougars at a tie for 21st place.
 
Cross Country
The University of Regina Cougars cross country competed in the Canada West Championships, which took place on Saturday, Oct. 25.
 
The Cougars men's team earned a silver medal in the team competition, with 4 athletes finishing in the top 15. Ian Teichler was 5th, Brett MacLean was 8th, Alec Teichler was 11th, and Adonias Downes finished 14th.
 
Harper Lebell was the lone member of the women's team to race and finished in 58th place.
 
The Cross Country U SPORTS Championships will be held in Sherbrooke, Que. on Saturday, Nov. 8.


Women's Volleyball
The Cougars Women's Volleyball team continued their regular season with a home series against the UBC Okanagan Heat.
 
On Friday, the Cougars started hot, going on an 11 point run in a first set which they won 25-12. They kept their momentum going and won both the second (25-12) and third (25-22) sets to win 3-0.
 
Samantha Krausher led all players with 14 kills, and Zoey Thompson added 5 blocks. After this past weekends games, she leads the conference with 19 total blocks.
 
 On Saturday, it was the Heat that struck first, winning the first set 25-21. The Cougars answered back and took the second set 25-16 but lost the third and fourth sets to lose 3-1.
 
Jordy McEachern led all players with 14 kills. Cassadi Klapak added 29 assists and 12 digs.
 
The Cougars will head to Abbotsford, B.C. to take on the University of Fraser Valley Cascades on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
 
 
Women's Hockey
It was rivalry weekend for the Cougars Women's hockey team, as they took on Saskatchewan in a home and home series as part of the U Prairie Challenge.
 
The Women's team hosted Saskatchewan on Friday. It was a back-and-forth game that remained scoreless for the entirety of regulation before the Huskies scored in overtime to win 1-0.
 
Natalie Williamson had 20 saves in net for the Cougars.
 
The rematch took place in Saskatoon on Saturday, and the Cougars got off to a better start, as Felicia An scored her first career Canada West goal just over 6 minutes into the first period.
 
The Huskies answered, but Quinn McLaren scored near the end of the frame and the Cougars led 2-1 after the first.
 
Kaitlyn Gilroy added goals in the second and third periods to seal it, and the Cougars won 4-1.
 
Amy Swayze got the start in net and had 24 saves. Gilroy and McLaren both had two points each in the win.
 
Next up, the Cougars will host the UBC Thunderbirds on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
 
 
Men's Hockey
 
The Cougars men's hockey team headed up to Saskatoon to take on the Huskies on Friday, before returning to Regina for a home contest on Saturday.
 
On Friday, the Huskies won 8-1.
 
The Cougars lone goal was scored by Matt Culling and assisted by Jackson Doucet.
 
Justen Maric got the start in net and had 32 saves.
 
On Saturday, the Huskies won 5-1.
 
Turner McMillen scored for the Cougars off an assist from Culling.
 
Damon Cunningham got the start in net and saved 46 of 51 shots.
 
Next, the Cougars will head to Vancouver for a weekend series against the UBC Thunderbirds.
