University of Regina interim head coach
Michaela Kleisinger announced Tuesday that guard Janaya McPherson has committed to the Cougars for the 2026-27 season.
Â
McPherson joins the U of R from Orangeville Prep in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association. Her Bears squad opens the OSBA postseason this Thursday afternoon with a quarterfinal matchup against Niagara Prep.
Â
"Janaya is a versatile, three-level scorer who we believe has the potential to step in and be an immediate threat from the three-point line," Kleisinger said. "We're looking for players who are committed to defending, rebounding, running the floor, and doing the little things like hitting the deck for loose balls. We expect Janaya to bring all of that to our program."
Â
Prior to joining Orangeville Prep this season, McPherson attended Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute in her hometown of Kitchener, Ont.
Â
McPherson becomes the third member of the Cougars' 2026-27 recruiting class. She joins Regina products Kai-Lynn Clive and Jael Wells, both of Harvest City Christian Academy, who committed to the program in December. McPherson will become the first Ontario player to suit up for the Cougars since Katie Polischuk wrapped up her stellar five-season career in 2017.
