Back in the CIS Top Ten for the first time this season, the University of Regina's women's volleyball team has its home openers this weekend against the No. 4-ranked Trinity Western Spartans.

The Cougars (1-1) are coming off of a weekend split with then-No. 2 Manitoba. The Bisons took the first match in four sets, but the Cougars recovered with a four-set win of their own on Saturday night.

Solveig Nilson had a huge game at the net in the win, registering a career-high nine blocks for the Cougars – the most in a four-set match by a U of R player since records are available beginning with the 2002-03 season. Roxanne Olynyk also had a strong weekend, as the third-year outside hitter is the conference's early leader in average kills per set (3.75).

Saturday's win came with assistant coach Tania Harrison running the bench, as head coach Melanie Sanford was in Saskatoon being formally inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame. The victory pushed the Cougars into the No. 9 position in the CIS Top Ten released on Tuesday.

Trinity Western's women's team comes into the weekend ranked No. 4 in the CIS, having swept both UBC and Thompson Rivers to start the Canada West season. Fifth-year outside hitter Kara Jansen Van Doorn is tied for the conference lead with 51 kills and has a team-high .301 hitting percentage.

The teams will play at 6:15 p.m. on Friday night, then will meet on Saturday night at 8 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's match. Both matches will feature live video and statistics at www.reginacougars.com.

The Cougars will continue their four-match homestand next weekend against Thompson Rivers.
