Solveig Nilson had a career-high nine blocks to lead the University of Regina's women's volleyball team to a four-set road victory over No. 2-ranked Manitoba on Saturday night in Winnipeg.
The Cougars kicked off the match with a 25-17 win in the first set, then took control of the match with a 25-22 win in the second. Manitoba responded with a 25-22 win of their own in the third, but the Cougars clinched the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth.
Michelle Sweeting had nine kills and a team-high .412 hitting percentage for the Cougars, while
Roxanne Olynyk had 14 kills and
Meagan Onstad chipped in with 13.
Kaitlyn Hughes tied for the match lead with 15 digs, while fourth-year setter
Tiffany Herman dished out 45 assists.
Ashley Voth had 12 kills and a .545 hitting percentage to lead Manitoba, which falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
The Cougars (1-1) will host Trinity Western (4-0) next weekend in their home openers at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
