Through four matches, 10 Cougars have started at least one match and a total of 13 players have seen the floor as head coach
Melanie Sanford looks for a winning combination. Left side
Tori Glynn, right side
Ashlee Sandiford, setter
Satomi Togawa, libero
Taylor Ungar, and middle
Molly Wade-Cummings have all started all four matches for the U of R. The other middle position has seen both
Kyla Payette and
Dominika Janowczyk, while
Jenna Krahn, rookie
Diana Lumbala, and
Kristine Ward have all been given starts at the other left side spot.
Sandiford has led or tied the Cougars (0-4) in kills in all four matches so far this season, including a career-high 11 two weekends ago in the second match at UBC Okanagan. She has a team-high 34 kills on the season, while Glynn isn't far behind with 27. Togawa has 93 assists and 28 digs, while Ungar ranks fifth in Canada West and leads the Cougars with 41 digs. Wade-Cummings has a team-high 16 blocks and needs just 17 more to become just the fifth Cougar ever to collect 200 in her career.
The Cougars welcome a UBC team that's 2-0 and ranked No. 8 in the CIS after opening Canada West play with a pair of convincing home wins over Manitoba. The combination of Alissa Coulter (22 kills, .366) and Danielle Brisebois (21 kills, .351) was too much for the Bisons to handle, and setter Alessandra Gentile dished out 66 assists over the six sets and ranks second in the conference win an average of 11 per set.
After this two-match series, the Cougars will prepare for their second consecutive home weekend at the CKHS. They'll entertain Brandon on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7.
