TEAM OVERVIEWS
REGINA – Winners of six of their past seven matches entering the weekend, the Cougars (11-9) now sit alone in fifth place in the Canada West standings as the teams enter the last three weeks of the conference schedule. The recent surge by the Cougars started with an early January road win at Saskatchewan, continued with a home sweep over Thompson Rivers and a road split with a ranked Trinity Western team, and kept going last weekend with a pair of away wins over MacEwan. After this weekend, Regina will conclude Canada West play with a pair of home games next Friday and Saturday against Manitoba as the U of R attempts to lock up its first playoff spot since 2014.

UBC – The Thunderbirds (15-3) dropped from the top-ranked team in the country to No. 3 in this week's poll after having their nine-match winning streak snapped at home last Saturday in a four-set loss to Brandon. Despite the upset loss, UBC is unquestionably one of the top teams in the nation and is currently tied with Calgary for first in the Canada West standings. The Thunderbirds' offence is generally controlled by fifth-year setter Alessandra Gentile with left side Kiera Van Ryk as the top weapon, as the rookie leads the team with 271 kills and ranks second in the conference in kills per set (3.93). After the Regina series, UBC's four remaining conference matches will come next weekend with a home-and-home against Trinity Western and a pair of home games against Saskatchewan.

POSTSEASON LOOK
Eight teams qualify for the Canada West postseason, and while the Cougars currently sit in fifth place with 11 wins they've played two more matches than four of the five teams immediately following them in the standings. Saskatchewan (9-11) also has four matches remaining, while Alberta (9-9), Manitoba (8-10), Mount Royal (8-10), and Brandon (8-10) all have six Canada West matches left on the schedule.
ALL ABOUT UNGAR
Fourth-year libero
Taylor Ungar continues to have a sensational season for the Cougars. She set Canada West's single-match digs record after piling up 38 earlier this year in a match at Winnipeg and now leads the entire conference in both digs (373) and digs per set (4.44).
GO THE DISTANCE
The Cougars have played a ton of volleyball this season considering that nine of their 20 conference matches have taken the full five sets to settle. And they've been good in that deciding set, too – Regina lost its first five-set match of the year, but since then the Cougars have won seven of eight that have gone the full five.
