TEAM OVERVIEWS
REGINA – One of the hottest teams in the nation, the Cougars have now won seven of their past nine matches after battling to a weekend split with a UBC team that came into the CKHS as the No. 3-ranked team in the country. Regina now sits in fifth place in the Canada West standings and the Cougars need just one win over Manitoba this weekend to clinch a playoff berth. Last weekend saw one of the most exciting volleyball matches ever played at the CKHS, as the Cougars faced match point in the third set to UBC before coming all the way back and winning the match in five.
Ashlee Sandiford drove the offence in the Friday win, ending up with 20 kills and nine digs while tying Desiree Ates' school record for most attacks in a match (71). Sandiford – who now has 20 kills in four separate matches since the calendar switched to 2018 – now ranks in the top ten in Canada West with 248 kills this season.

MANITOBA – The Bisons come into the weekend embroiled in a furious battle for one of the final postseason spots in the conference. Manitoba and Mount Royal enter the penultimate weekend of the regular season tied for eighth place in the standings with identical 9-11 records after the two teams split last weekend in Winnipeg. With the top eight teams to advance to the postseason, Manitoba will likely have to hold off Saskatchewan (9-13) while passing at least one of Brandon (10-10) or MRU to lock up a trip to the playoffs – and with Manitoba to close out the season next weekend against UBC Okanagan, the top-ranked team in the country, the Bisons will be in must-win mode against Regina. Manitoba's player to watch is Kearley Abbott, a second-year hitter who has piled up 269 kills so far this season.

SANDIFORD TIES SCHOOL ATTACKS RECORD
Fourth-year outside hitter
Ashlee Sandiford tied a school record in Friday's win over UBC. She piled up 71 attacks in the five-set victory, matching a mark that had previously been set by Desiree Ates in a match against UBC Okanagan back during the 2013-14 season. Sandiford had only four attacks in the first set, but was called upon for 25 attempts in the second and 19 more in the third. She finished with 12 attacks in the fourth set and 11 in the deciding fifth set. Ates and Sandiford are the only two players in U of R history to have more than 70 attacks in a Canada West match.
