ABOUT REGINA
The No. 10-ranked Cougars come into the postseason riding a school-record 10-match winning streak, which helped them put together one of the best seasons in program history. They finished the Canada West schedule with a 16-8 record, setting a school mark for wins in a season and ending up with the second best winning percentage in the team's record book. Three graduating Cougars lead the way statistically, including libero Taylor Ungar who became Canada West's all-time digs leader earlier this year. Satomi Togawa finished second in the conference with an average of 9.86 assists per set while also putting up 268 digs this year, and Ashlee Sandiford was the team's top hitter with 286 kills.

ABOUT UBC
UBC was on a hot streak of its own prior to last weekend, as the Thunderbirds had won seven straight matches before finishing off their season with losses to the first-place Calgary Dinos last Friday and Saturday. UBC is led by Kiera Van Ryk, who's in just her second year of eligibility but is a strong Canada West Player of the Year candidate as she led the conference in kills (398), kills per set (4.52), and service aces (68) this year. UBC finished the conference schedule in fifth place in the Canada West standings with a 15-7 record.

COUGARS/THUNDERBIRDS SERIES
The two teams will meet in the Canada West quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. Last year, UBC took the best-of-three series in two straight matches in Vancouver. They also got the best of the Cougars in two matches in Regina earlier this season, winning in five sets and in four sets back in mid-November.

THE BRACKET
The winner of this series will not only advance to the Canada West semifinals next weekend against the winner of the Calgary/Manitoba quarterfinal, but could also earn an automatic berth to the U SPORTS Championship. Canada West will send its top three teams to the national tournament in addition to host Alberta, so a Pandas victory over Thompson Rivers in the quarterfinals would immediately solidify the conference's three assigned berths.

It would get a little trickier if TRU takes out Alberta this weekend. The two teams advancing to the Canada West final would obviously get automatic berths, but a bronze medal match would then be needed to decide the final berth between the two losers of the conference semifinal series.
