Described by the Regina College Register in 1928 as “the most marvellous rugby machine the college has ever produced,” the 1927-28 Regina College rugby team won the Kiwanis Shield in 1927. In five games played during the season, the team scored 109 points while allowing just 12. The team was coached by Bruce McIrvine and captained by Jay D. Williamson.

Other members of the team included Hugh Armour, Max Bell, Orval Bicknel, Trevor Darke, Lawrence Drummond, Cliff Gilroy, Paddy Higgs, Basil Hills, Carman Layng, William Lewis, Bert McGilvary, Bud McKay, Harold Moffet, Lyle Pearlman, Ed Schiefner, Herbert Summer, Brue Taylor, and Harry Woods.
