University of Regina Sports Hall of Fame
Shawn Peters emerged as the school’s first superstar in the sport after the U of R started the track & field programs in the mid-1990s. His list of accomplishments at both the Canada West and CIAU/CIS levels is nothing short of incredible, as he collected a total of eight national medals and nine conference medals during his five seasons with the Cougars.
Peters won three CIAU/CIS gold medals and two silver medals in the triple jump, while taking one gold medal and two silver medals in the long jump. A four-time Canada West individual champion in the triple jump and a three-time champion in the long jump, Peters remains the holder of the conference’s triple jump record (15.65 m).
Peters also won back-to-back Top 8 Academic All-Canadian awards following the 1998-99 and 1999-00 seasons and was named the University of Regina Male Athlete of the Year and the President’s Award recipient following the 2000-01 campaign. He also participated for Team Canada at the Summer Universiade and at the North America, Central America, and Caribbean Athletic Association championship meet.
