After a season with the University of Saskatchewan, Chris Biegler transferred to the U of R and starred with the Cougars from the 1985-86 season through 1988-89. Biegler was one of the top players in the CIAU during his time at the U of R and remains the only Cougar ever to receive the Mike Moser Memorial Award, given to the CIS Player of the Year. Biegler was a three-time All-Canadian (1987, 1988, 1989) and a four-time GPAC first-team all-star. He is the U of R’s all-time leader in points per game (23.1) and ranks third in the U of R record book in career points scored (1362).

In Biegler’s final season at the U of R, he led the Cougars to their first-ever CIAU championship appearance. The Cougars defeated the University of Prince Edward Island in the quarterfinals before bowing out to the Victoria Vikes in the semifinals.
