Led by head coach Christine Stapleton, the University of Regina’s 2000-01 women’s basketball team lost only two games all season long en route to its first national championship. The Cougars had a 20-2 regular season record and ended the season on a 14-game winning streak (including regular season, GPAC playoffs, and the CIAU tournament).

Corrin Wersta was named a second-team All-Canadian and a GPAC first-team all-star. Stapleton was the GPAC Coach of the Year, while Bree Burgess and Cymone Bouchard were also named GPAC all-stars. Bouchard was named the MVP of the CIAU championship.

Stapleton was assisted by both Diane Hilko and Dave Taylor. Other players included Sheena Aitken, Leah Anderson, Tara-Lee Crosson, Phoebe De Ciman, Heather Dedman, Crystal Heisler, Kayla McKaig, Becky Poley, Jana Schweitzer, and Rumali Werapitiya. Kate Stefan and Erin Walton served as trainers.
