After blitzing through the Great Plains Athletic Conference with a 16-2 record during the regular season, head coach Debbie Patterson and the Cougars won their third consecutive conference championship. For the second year in a row, the Cougars defeated New Brunswick in the CIAU quarterfinal, but unlike the year before, Regina was able to come up with a win in the semifinals to advance to the championship game. The Cougars lost to Laurentian by a score of 79-72 to end up as the CIAU silver medalists.

The team was led offensively by first-team All-Canadian Jackie Moore, who averaged 25.3 points per game during the regular season, a mark which still stands as a U of R single-season record. Karen Harvey, Jennifer Heeg, Vivian Kingdon, Liz Kufeldt, Stacey McPhail, Stacey Parsons, Penny Patterson, Laurie Perron, and Deanne Shmyr were also on the team’s roster. Anita LaBrie served as the team’s assistant coach.
