Deanne Shmyr was the University of Regina’s first legitimate threat from beyond the arc following the introduction of the three-point line into CIAU women’s basketball in the mid-1980s. Shmyr was a two-time Great Plains Athletic Conference first-team all-star, a two-time All-Canadian, and a two-time University of Regina Outstanding Female Athlete. Over her five-season career at the U of R, Shmyr piled up 1055 points and led the team to three GPAC championships and three CIAU championship appearances. With 128 career three-pointers, she is ranked No. 2 on the U of R’s all-time list.
